Redheart by Jackie Gamber

My Rating: PG
My Score: 5 out of 5

Stunning. This book is simply a lot of fun. It’s an escape into the magical world of dragons and wizards. Any dreamer will feel at home in Leland province. This is the perfect book for fantasy lovers.

Being the first book in the LELAND DRAGON series, there are a few cliffhangers. Something has to keep the reader on their toes and anxious for the next book. In this case, the cliffhangers are done just right. The reader feels a sense of closure when they get to the last page, but they still know there are many exciting things to come.

The beginning of this book comes as a bit of a shock. The idea that dragons are commonplace in Gamber’s world is not hard to swallow; lots of fantasy novels have dragons. The unbelievable aspect is that these dragons talk, not only amongst themselves, but with humans. The idea feels so ludicrous that the reader may think they’re reading a children’s fairy tale. This is not the case. The story is so phenomenal and well-told that talking dragons soon feel commonplace to the reader, too.

Then when the reader feels truly at home in Gamber’s world, she serves up a shocking twist that has the potential to change everything. The timing is perfect and the effect is dramatic. There is no doubt that Gamber knows what she’s doing.

An amazing book that all fantasy fans should add to their to-read list.
